How to Set my Junior Golfer up For Success on The Golf Course

How to Set my Junior Golfer up For Success on The Golf Course

Setting Your Youth Golfer up For Success on The Golf Course

When your child is beginning their golfing journey, it can be overwhelming, from the parents, and childs point of view. With so many questions being asked, like, what to wear? What do we need? How do I find a golf course? Can we just show up? How do I make sure my child enjoys it? We know that these are only a few questions that instantly pop up for you and although it can be overwhelming, we ask that you trust us, because we will make sure that you are covered from tee to green.

Why should you trust us? Well, here at All Kids Golf Clubs we are the experts in junior golf, with 24 years of experience, we are here to help make sure your days on the golf course are nothing short of incredible.

Step 1: Make a tee time

As simple as it sounds, make a tee time. What is a tee time? A tee time is a reservation you make for the golf course, just like you would for dinner. If you make a tee time for say 5:30pm, that means you need to be hitting the ball of the tee box right at 5:30pm. If that's the case, we suggest you arrive to the golf course at least 20 minutes early, which will allow for you to go inside, pay, grab your gear, and comfortably be ready to play an awesome round of golf. One thing we do suggest is asking the pro shop if it's a kid friendly course, as some courses would be honest with you and say no or, "Hey, we are but only after 6:00pm because it's much slower then." This is crucial information because this will save you a frustrated junior golfer down the road.

There's nothing worse than arriving too close to your tee time with your child and having to rush from the car, to the pro shop, back to the car to grab your clubs, and speed tot he first tee box. Not only will this feel incredibly overwhelming for your junior golfer, but it will set them up to be anxious when teeing off, and we have found that all golfers play better when they are relaxed, and looking to just have a fun time. So, in all, it's important to make a tee time, so you can reserve you spot, and arrive at least 20 minutes early, so you can ease your way into the round.

Step 2: Wearing a Proper Golf Etiquette Outfit

Golf is and always will be a sport that requires a certain level of etiquette, no matter where you go. This step is crucial because certain golf course require a collared shirt and if your junior golfer shows up with a regular t shirt, they will not let you play. Luckily for all of us, the golf fashion in 2024 is nothing short of incredible. You can find amazing polos, pants, shorts, shoes, and hats, that are made by the most well known athletic brands, that fit just like gym clothes. If you would like to see what we offer, checkout of Kids Golf Clothing.

We understand how much some kids hate wearing dress clothes, which is why all of the golf apparel we carry at AllKidsGolfClubs.com fits like fancy gym clothes. It's the best of both worlds. We suggest sticking with some brands your child already likes, as this will make the transition much easier and fun for your child. Just like mom and dad wear their Nike Polos, your child can too. One thing we beg you not to do, is wear shoes that are not appropriate for courses. Such as, cleats with massive spikes that can destroy the grass. Kids Golf Shoes come spiked and spikeless, but even the spiked shoes feature golf specific technology that is meant for golf.

Step 3: What Golf Equipment Do I Need for my Child?

What's golf without golf clubs? Well, the answer is nothing. A Junior Golf Set comes with specific technology for kids. This technology consist of lightweight club heads, graphite shafts, appropriate grip sizes, and clubs designed specifically for the child's height. Kids and even teens can not use adult clubs and the reason is because the technology in adult clubs is far too different, such as the clubs are too long, too heavy, the shaft is not suitable for a childs swing, and putting all this together will lead to your child being frustrated at the course.

We understand that handing down clubs is a suitable option, but it's only suitable if the clubs fit the child, otherwise finding success will be slim. All of the youth golf clubs we offer at All Kids Golf Clubs have a detailed product description and specs for our customers which will guide you to finding a set that fits. For example, if your child is 50 inches tall, you can see that our products description says "Tour X 5 Club Kids Golf Set for Ages 8-11 (kids 46-54" tall) Red" the part that says (kids 46-54" tall) assures you that yes, this set will fit your child as they fall into the recommended height range. If your child was 55 inches tall, this set would be slightly too small and we would suggest going to the next height range up.

As for golf balls, we know how much kids love colors, and having a golf ball in their favorite color can spark an interest right away. We suggest purchasing Super Soft golf balls, as they are designed for slower swing speeds, which kids naturally have because of their physical size. Every super soft ball is different with technology, but generally speaking these balls allow for more launch even with a slower swing speed. Checkout all of our Golf Balls.

Step 4: Rules on the golf course, Positive Attitude, and Smiles

We suggest that on the ride to the golf course, you debrief to your child a few basic rules on the golf course.

  1. No screaming or yelling: Golf is a unique sport because of the fact that it doesn't stir up the crowd like a basketball game or the physical contact like basketball, but instead, it is a quiet game that has etiquette that must be followed. When someone is hitting their shot, it's important to keep quiet when they're hitting. It goes one step deeper because if you're at the course, there's a good chance other golfers are playing all around you, so we suggest you inform your child to always be on the lookout that you're not being too loud when other players are hitting next to you. Simply reminding your child to be aware of their surrounding is all it will take and will keep them ahead of the game and enthusiastic.
  2. Keeping Tempers Controlled: Kids love things they are good at, but if we are being honest, adults are the same way. Golf is a tough sport, but once you find success, the ball will start to roll (no pun intended). If your child mishits some shots and is struggling, it's important to remind them that it's okay, head up, and with more practice they will get it. It's just like studying for school, the more you study, the more you will learn. A great quote we love here at AllKidsGolfClubs.com is, "The harder I work, the luckier I get." Leading us to our final point, your equipment should be respected, and you should never slam your clubs into the ground. This is a sign of frustration and although it happens, it's important to remember that you should take of of your equipment.
  3. Speed of Play: This is always the hardest part for new golfers, as they want to explore all areas of the course, hit as many balls as they can, and although this is great, we have to remember that other players are still trying to enjoy their golf day as well. We suggest keeping an eye ahead and behind you, to stay at pace with the other groups. Meaning, if the group behind you seems to be getting close to you and you've been hitting 2-3 balls, it would be smart to just hit one 1 ball until you are seperated from them. If there is nobody behind or in front of you, we don't suggest you hit 5 balls, but hitting 2-3 at your own speed is fine. Sadly, we have all hit our favorite ball into the woods and it happens. If you looked for that balls for over a few minutes, we suggest you grab a new ball, drop where you are, and move on. Your favorite ball will always remember the fun ya'll had.
