Should my child's first golf set be a real metal set or a plastic golf set?
This question can truly only be answered by you: the parents or grandparents. AllKidsGolfClubs.com has real and plastic clubs for children as young as 2 years of age, but metal clubs are much heavier than plastic ones and they could be potentially dangerous if used inappropriately.
Two key aspects to determine whether your child is ready for metal golf clubs are: 1) is your child a rule follower and more mature for his/her age and 2) How strong is your child? Is your child more on the reckless side and is he/she more difficult to control? Then maybe it's a wise decision waiting to purchase a metal set until he or she is older, a little more mature and more likely to follow directions.

In order to check if your child is ready, have him hold his arm straight out from his body, parallel to the ground with the club in his hand. Have him point his thumb into the air. If he can hold the club in that position parallel to the ground without it falling, he is strong enough to swing that club confidently.

Club length for 2 year old who is 34 inches tall: Driver 24 inches long, 7 iron 20 inches long, Pitching wedge 19 inches long, and putter 19 inches long.
Club length for 3 year old who is 37 inches tall: Driver 26 inches long, 7 iron 22.5 inches long, Pitching wedge 21.5 inches long, and putter 21.5 inches long.
Club length for 4 year old who is 40 inches tall: Driver 28 inches long, 7 iron 23.5 inches long, Pitching wedge 22.5 inches long, and putter 22 inches long.

Which Clubs Should Be in My Child's First Golf Bag?

Please remember you should always select your children's golf clubs based on their height and not their age. Measure your child (in inches) with his or her shoes on. Please make sure that you select a product where your child's current height is in the lower part of the range to ensure the longest use possible.
