Which Kids Golf Wedge should my child use?
If you have played golf before, you know that the short game is where the matches are won. This is because golf is extremely precise and as you get close to the green, you need the proper tools to navigate that perfect shot. The loft of junior golf wedges will decrease as the age range of the golfer increases. So therefore, the loft on the wedges for the youngest golfers will be higher by a couple degrees than the loft on the wedges for teens. As your golfer increases in height, expect the loft to decrease sightly. Also keep in mind that for most junior golfers, having more than one wedge in the bag is unnecessary until the child is able to hit it properly since they will all go about the same distance until the child is able to master hitting a wedge. Also, note that some wedges come in a blade style and other a cavity back style. - Pitching Wedge: This wedge is the most common wedge you'll find for junior golfers. It also has the lowest loft of all the wedges. The loft for junior pitching wedges typically ranges between 50 for the youngest golfers to 48 degrees for teen golfers. - Gap Wedge: The gap wedge loft typically falls between the pitching wedge and sand wedge. The loft on junior gap wedges typically ranges between 55 and 52 degrees. And again, expect the loft to decrease as your junior golfer moves up in sizes.
- Sand Wedge: The sand wedge is a staple in most adult golf bags and is more commonly available in junior golf sizes than a gap or lob wedge. The sand wedge lofts range between 55 and 58 degrees.
- Lob Wedge: The lob wedge loft is the highest of all the golf wedges. The lob wedge can be difficult to hit, but it might be fun to work with you child on the driving range with this club to improve his/her game. The junior lob wedges typically range in lofts from 60 to 63 degrees.
