We don't like to use age as a guideline because all children grow at different paces and some early teens may be athletic and strong enough to swing 80 miles per hour, while a late teen may struggle to break 70 miles per hour. If a golfer is swinging below 80 miles per hour, they should look for a golf set with graphite shafts. The reason for this is, graphite bends more, and will allow you to generate more distance on your shots, even with a slower swing speed, making graphite the secrete weapon here.
Womens Golf Sets: A Golf Set for Women is actually very similar to the same technology found in kids products. What does that mean? Well, the clubs feature graphite shafts, are slightly shorter than mens, and come with everything you need out of the box. Womens Golf Sets are designed for lady golfers who have a swing speed 55 to 85 miles per hour, give or take a few mph. This is important to note because of the fact that womens golf sets come with graphite shafts. We tell parents all the time, if you are on a golf trip, and want to play golf with your child and there are no clubs available, they are better off using a womens golf set because of the graphite shafts.
With that being said, if a parent is keen on purchasing an adult set for their child, there is a better chance that a womens golf set would be a "better" fit due to the graphite shaft. On the other hand, if your child has a fast swing speed, having regular success on the course, and is above 64 inches tall, a mens golf set could be a good fit.
Can Kids use a Complete Golf Set?
When shopping for kids, the biggest factor is where they are in their golf game. Some kids have not grown yet, and some seem like they grow a few inches every night. The first part to understand this is, how experienced is your child in golf, and how fast is their swing speed.
Generally speaking, complete golf sets, whether they are for men, or women, come with technology to fit an adult, not a child. So, right out of the gate, that means that the clubs are longer, heavier, and feature technology that will restrict a young golfers performance. But, if your child is very athletic, strong, and grown, they would most likely be okay using a complete golf set for an adult. If there was to be a guideline on swing speed, a childs swing speed above 80-85 miles per hour, would be okay using an adult golf set.
